Time limits for filing documents in the Supreme Court and JCPC

17 March 2020

Lord Reed, the President of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the Judicial Committee, has approved the following practice to be applied in relation to the filing of documents over the coming weeks.

There are at present no plans to close the Registry before the Easter vacation but some parties may for the time being prefer not to travel to the court to file their papers. In those cases, parties should email their documents to the registry on registry@supremecourt.uk or registry@jcpc.uk specifying the means by which they propose to file (i.e. post, DX or courier). If this is done then the document will be treated as having been filed on the next business day.

Furthermore time limits will be applied flexibly and parties should bear in mind the provision of the overriding objective of the Rules that unnecessary disputes over procedural matters are discouraged.
