Swearing-in of the Supreme Court President, Deputy President and three new Justices

On Monday 2 October a special ceremony will be held for the swearing in of the new President, Deputy President and three new Justices of the UK Supreme Court. This marks the beginning of the new legal year.

Lady Hale will succeed Lord Neuberger as President of The Supreme Court
Lady Hale Lord Mance will be sworn in as President and Deputy President respectively

The swearing-in will take place at 10am in Courtroom One of the following Justices of The Supreme Court:

  • Lady Hale of Richmond as President
  • Lord Mance as Deputy President
  • Lady Black of Derwent as Justice
  • Lord Lloyd-Jones as Justice
  • Lord Briggs of Westbourne as Justice

The building will remain open to the public and visitors will be welcome to watch the ceremony live on a 'big screen' in Courtroom Two, with seats allocated on a first come first serve basis.

The Court will close promptly after the ceremony at 10:30am and all visitors will be asked to leave. The building, including Registry, will then re-open to the public at 11:15am.

The ceremony will be live streamed on Supreme Court Live, and will be available to view 'on demand' via our YouTube channel.
