'Equal to Everything: Judge Brenda and the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court houses exhibition of artwork from Legal Action Group's children's book 'Equal to Everything: Judge Brenda and the Supreme Court'

Visitors to the Supreme Court over the next few months will have the opportunity to enjoy the original artwork created by Henny Beaumont for the Legal Action Group's (LAG) children's book, 'Equal to Everything: Judge Brenda and the Supreme Court'.

The beautiful paintings were used to illustrate the children's book written by Afua Hirsch. The story is about a little girl from Yorkshire who visits the Supreme Court with her class and meets Lady Hale, the former President of the UK Supreme Court. They learn about what real judges do and how they might become our judges of the future - in courtrooms, not just on the television!

The book was published in October 2019 by LAG, a national charity committed to improving access to justice, particularly for the vulnerable and socially excluded.

Henny Beaumont is a London-based artist/illustrator. She is a lecturer at Ravensbourne College and she regularly cartoons for national newspapers. The paintings on display in this exhibition are a labour of love. She spent months absorbing the themes at the heart of the book, developing the characters of the children, and sketching in court and in Richmond.

Located on the lower-ground floor of the building, next to the Supreme Court's permanent exhibition area, the exhibition is free to visit. Copies of the children's book are available to purchase in the Supreme Court cafe and also via LAG and in all good bookshops, with proceeds helping to fund LAG's work to promote access to justice. Prints of Henny's artworks are also available to purchase on her website.
