Arrangements following the Duke of Edinburgh's death

On 9 April 2021 Buckingham Palace announced the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (UKSC) and Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC) extend their deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the whole of the Royal Family.

A period of national mourning has commenced and will conclude on 17 April inclusive.

During this time, all UKSC and JCPC hearings will go ahead as scheduled. Justices will wear appropriate mourning dress for hearings.

A two-minute silence will be observed at the start of the first hearing of the week, on Wednesday 14 April at 10.30am.

The swearing-in of Lady Justice Rose, as Justice of the Supreme Court, will be postponed until Monday 19 April at 9.30am. This was due to take place on Tuesday 13 April.

The union flag above the Supreme Court building in Parliament Square will fly at half-mast until 8am on Sunday 18 April, the day after the funeral.
